There are few gurus whose actual persona lives up to their popular image. But the darkest part of Drucker’s shadow is brighter than the greatest illuminations of most management gurus.

I met Drucker at his understated suburban Claremont home. A tiny ranch set on a tiny lot. As I walked up the short winding path to his house I could see someone working in the front room against a backdrop of books which lined the wall of selves.

Peter Drucker passed away on November 11th, 2005 at his home in Claremont. We at Delphi had a very special and long standing relationship with Peter, who had keynoted at many of our events. I personally had the great privilege of meeting with Peter at his home several times and discussing with him a wide variety of topics. It was an opportunity that has shaped and guided much of my own thinking and behavior over the years. What will always remain with me about Peter is not the greatness of his mind or the clarity of his thinking, both of which were without peer, but rather the great ability he had to maintain his humility and graciousness despite the fame he had achieved.
